Revisit North and south Chinese Vernacular Yuyuan commercial park in Shanghai is one of the commercial and leisure icon in the city, because it’s so famous, it became one of the tourist landmark of china. Yuyuan group intend to repeat the success in Shenyang. since successful in shanghai the client tend to keep the southern china traditional building concept for this project as well. In order to give more value and distinction for this particular project ,we suggested to give some more articulation and characteristic on the overall design, thus we introduced the concept of ‘combination’ as we called it yin-yang concept. The facade design of this project was comprised of interaction between the Chinese vernacular language with Chinese contemporary and then as a contrast, we emphasized the historical monument and main accesses with pure modern-contemporary object. The design based on idea of Chinese commercial street in history, even so the building is actually a one big shopping mall, but we camouflaged the bulk appearance with the idea of street facade, not only to give variety but also to create a unique skyline. the middle park of the project is the historical ruins of Hangwang palace. Instead of rebuilt the ruins we suggested to keep the originality the ruins. A memorial of historical pieces can be done by many ways, we believe in the idea of preservation by space and time. the idea of glass square above the ruins with historical poem printed on the glass facade is the idea of the space and time itself. the square represent the container the past time. and people from the present can witness this time from present through this container.
